Delivering Measurable Results...

1. Copper has been proven effective in killing the bacteria that is often associated with PDD, often referred to as Hairy Hoof Wart or Hairy Heel Wart.

2. Copper Sulfate Pentahydrate (CuSO4 .5 H2O) has been the preferred source of Copper.

3. Copper Sulfate, when dissolved in water, produces Cupric ions (Cu++), which kills both aerobic and anaerobic bacteria.

Copper Sulfate Pentahydrate

1. Copper must be bio-available (solubilized) to release Cupric Ions (Cu ++) to kill the bacteria.

2. The amount of bio-available Cupric Ions (Cu ++) is directly related to the pH of the footbath.

In Common Practice...

the pH of 50 gallons of water in a footbath with 25 lbs of Copper Sulfate is 5.5—6.0. Only 24% of the Cupric Ions (Cu ++) is available and that is before manure and contaminants further increase the pH.
